is one of the top emerging voices from this new generation of jazz artists. not only does he exhibit world class facility and technique over the trumpet, he is also a talented vocalist and composer whose sound is an electric marriage of Jazz, Alternative R&B and Hip Hop tinges and moods.
Some of his influences include the likes of McCoy Tyner, D’angelo, Freddie Hubbard, Wayne Shorter, Flying Lotus & Monte Booker.
Drew grew up in Richmond, VA where he was first introduced to the world of music by his father, a seasoned Jazz pianist and composer, who gave him a trumpet at age 5. By Age 17 Drew left Richmond to cut his teeth in NYC Jazz scene where he would go on to perform and tour alongside high caliber artists such as Solange Knowles, Tailib Kweli, Theo Croker, Terrace Martin, Natasha Diggs, Ulysses Owens Jr., and Yasin Bey (FKA Mos Def}).
Drew Ashby’s music is a gumbo of jazz, Blues, hip Hop, R&B and ELECTRONIC that intersect and weave between each other in each of his compositions. It’s an eclectic blend of traditional acoustic instruments such as grand Piano, acoustic upright bass, and horns married with electronic touches and grooves from today’s rap/hiphop scene. He is currently recording his debut EP “SOUTH” to be released on all platforms
